Bill Harmel, 82 of Seymour passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023 at his home surrounded by his wife and family.
No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Larry “Bill” Harmel was born on February 2, 1942, to Lawrence and Johnnye Farr Harmel at Bethania Catholic Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas. He is survived by his wife Susan Harmel, daughter Dawn Harmel Harrell, granddaughter Ali Silva, and three great grandchildren. He attended Seymour High School and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He moved to Baton Rouge in 1985 and traveled the south working in the western apparel industry. He received several sales awards including the Million Dollar Club Award and the Kenny Rogers Salesman of the Year Award. In September of 1986 Bill married the love of his life Susan Core at the Chapel on Campus in Baton Rouge. They were married by Donald Tabb who has been a lifelong friend. They have been married for 37 years. After the passing of his father, Lawrence Harmel, he returned in 2006 to Seymour to preserve his father’s legacy as a rancher and farmer at the Harmel Ranch. Bill’s passions included traveling, the beach, good food, Jimmy Buffet, and the LSU Tigers. He never met a stranger and never failed to shake a hand. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department for rural fire prevention. A celebration of life will be hosted at a later date.
