Â

Felton was born July 26, 1939 in Seymour to the late John W. and Ula Plummer Mayers. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1957 and was a life long resident of Baylor County, except for one year in Wichita Falls, working for the Texas Highway Department. He married Janett Donnell on February 21, 1959 in Wichita Falls.

He started working for Shambuger Lumber Company when he was fourteen years old, chopping weeds and continued to work there through his high school years. He was a bookkeeper until he went to work for O.T. Richerson at Seymour Lumber Company, doing carpenter work and building houses. He worked for the Texas Department of Highways for nearly twenty years. Part of that time was spent working as a Bridge Inspector for a nine county area with the late Lavell Meaders. He was a Baylor County Commissioner for eight years and at the time of his retirement, he was employed by Teppco Oil Transport Company. After retiring, he became a carrier for the Times Record News, until his health began to fail.

Â

Felton could build anything and loved working with wood, gardening and encouraged everyone to protect the environment, planting wildflowers and working in the yard. He and his wife worked hard to help Seymour win The Keep Texas Beautiful Award, which they did.
