Charles Eugene Gregg

November 30, 1932 — September 5, 2022

Wichita Falls

Charles Eugene Gregg was born November 30, 1932 in Wichita Falls to William B and Mary Gregg, and passed from this earth peacefully September 5, 2022. He attended Sam Houston elementary, Zundy Jr High and Wichita Falls High School where “Snake” was the single wing blocking back and play caller for the 1949 state champion Coyotes, graduating in 1950. On the day of his graduation, he left to join the US Army, eventually becoming a prestigious guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. He then came home to Wichita Falls where he spent the rest of his life, marrying his high school classmate Gracie Elizabeth Smith (who predeceased him), earning a degree in animal husbandry from Midwestern University (Indians and no State then!) and raising 3 children. Charles went to work for Texas Electric Service Company (now Oncor) as a service rep and stayed until offered a golden parachute retirement package, a “deal he couldn’t refuse”. He made many lifelong friends at TESCO, including some that he joined for coffee each Friday morning until a couple of weeks ago at Whataburger on Kell before heading to Parkway Grill for lunch as discussed below. Also, during retirement he enjoyed woodworking projects, watching grandchildren’s sports and school activities, and watching the Dallas Cowboys at least until the point in the game where they messed up causing them to lose at which point the off button on his remote came into use.

Survivors include 3 children, Jeff (Becky) of Seymour, Jan Evans of Quanah, and David (Monika) of Plano. 6 grandchildren Katie Samoyedny (Steve), Kristen Gregg, Julie Sisante (Anton), and Matt Gregg (Tiffany) all of Dallas or northern suburbs; Jennifer Evans of Lawton, and Garrett Gregg of New York. And his companion and plus one for the last several years, Kathy Burbank of Wichita Falls.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity. In lieu of a memorial service, a celebration of Charles’ life will be held in the north dining/bar room of Parkway Grill on SW Parkway in Wichita Falls from 11am-1pm Friday September 9, where he spent that time frame each Friday for years with his Coyote teammates sharing war stories (some were occasionally repeated), food and beers which we will do on his behalf. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
