Services will be held Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Steve Sullwold, officiating. Burial will follow in the Round Timber Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Babe was born to John Thad "Johnny" and Winnie Frances Howe Palmer at Hamilton Hospital in Olney, TX on September 23, 1956. She graduated from the Megargel High School class of 1975, a proud member of the Mustang pride.
Upon graduation, Babe married William "Harley" Portwood III at the First Baptist Church of Olney on June 21, 1975. To this union, three beautiful daughters were born; Sunday Lynne, Sommer Jo and Frances Skye.
Babe was known throughout the countryside for her infectious smile and her witty personality. She was fun loving, kind, and whole-hearted. She was a woman of integrity and truly lived with a servant heart.
Babe was a family oriented woman and was proud of her grandchildren, Kade & Layton and supported them in all of their endeavors and activities. She was also excitedly anticipating the upcoming birth of Baby Urbanczyk. Babe loved to spend her time with the love of her life, Harley, on the ranch looking at cattle, photographing wildlife and engaging in the ranching and farming lifestyle along the Salt Fork of the Brazos. Babe and Harley truly have a love for the land.
Babe was also a community driven servant. She was always first to help those in need, giving her heart and her resources. She served on the Baylor County Child Welfare Board, Round Timbers Cemetery Association, she played bunco with friends and attended First Presbyterian Church of Seymour.
Babe will be sorely missed throughout her family and community and her loss leaves many hearts empty but also comforted knowing she is rejoicing with Jesus.
Babe is survived by her husband of 41 years, Harley, daughters; Sunday Lynne and husband Clint McAdams, Sommer Jo Portwood and Jay Young; all of Seymour and Frances Skye and husband Steven Urbanczyk of Munday, grandchildren; Kade & Layton McAdams, Baby Urbanczyk arriving July 2016, and Kennedy Young, two brothers; Scott Palmer and wife Gayle of Olney, Mike Palmer and wife Lori of Megargel, father-in-law, Don Buckalew of Olney; sister-in-law; Linda Rounsaville and husband Jim of Springcreek, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins - all of whom she loved dearly.
