Colleen (Kelly) Martin

April 14, 1951 — June 30, 2023

Seymour

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Colleen Martin, 72 of Seymour, passed away from this Earth suddenly on Friday, June 30, 2023 in Del Norte, Colorado.

Visitation with family will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 6:30-7:30pm at Archer Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Family and friends will always remember Colleen for her sensitive and caring nature, her devotion to her family, and her “packy pack rat” ability to always be prepared. When it came to the people she loved, she was an immovable force, the calm during the storm, and the tender hand of encouragement on your shoulder. She lived by the quote from her grandmother Kelly, “It is not doing the things that you like to do; but liking the things that you have to do that makes life blessed.”

Colleen was born on April 14, 1951 in sunny Pecos, Texas to Henry Herman and Nona Fay Calley Kelly. She graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a minor in Agriculture. While in school, Colleen met the love of her life Kim Martin. They married on August 14, 1970 at the First United Methodist Church in Seymour. Colleen devoted her life to her family, her home, the farm, and her friends. She enjoyed working with power tools but her deepest loves were horses and photography. Her passion for family history led her to research her and Kim’s geneology, creating an extensive family tree. She made albums and picture books of all the memories and adventures of the Martin family throughout the years for future generations. Colleen had a frame shop for 20 years and served on the Seymour School Board from 1990-1994. She was a 4-H leader for 15 years and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

A lover of the mountains, Colleen enjoyed annual summer excursions to Colorado. Eventually in 2011, they found their official “home away from home” and bought a cabin outside of Creede. In the weeks before her passing, Colleen spent time with all four of her grandkids in her special place, soaking up all the fun and memories.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Herman Kelly and Nona Faye Kelly; a brother, Michael Henry Kelly and 2 granddaughters, Jesse Jo Hajek and Josie Jenelle Hajek.

She is survived by her husband, Kim Martin of Seymour; 2 sons, Kyle Martin and wife, Rachel of Mason and Dr. Kory Martin and wife, Dr. Toni Chu of Seymour; a daughter, Kimbra Hajek and husband, David of Seymour; a sister, Joan Lowe of Eastland; sister-in-laws Susie Kelly of Lipan and Teddy Young of Comanche, her 4 grandchildren, Sam Dreyer, Camden Martin, Maggie Martin and Nate Dreyer, and her favorite pup Reba.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Colleen’s memory to the Baylor County 4-H Club Junior Livestock Show or the church of your choice.
