Donald Floyd Welch, age 90, of Seymour, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Donald was born on May 29, 1933 to Henry and Lessie (Stennett) Welch in the community of Round Timber, Texas. He grew up on their farm in Round Timber and attended school at both Westover and Seymour, joining the United States Navy soon after graduation. He served honorably for 20+ years at White Sands Proving Grounds and aboard several ships: USS Gull, USS Mainstay, USS Galveston, USS Montrose, USS Columbus, USS Chicago, and USS America, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. He had a second career post-Navy with Texas Utilities Mining Company in east Texas. After retirement, Donald enjoyed spending time with family playing pinochle and 42, and spending time outdoors gardening, hunting, fishing, and rock collecting.
Donald is survived by Betty, his devoted wife of 69 years, and his children: Gwen Welch, Don Welch and wife Michele, Tina Welch, Michelle Tucker and husband Randy, as well as six grandchildren: Emily, Jacob, Madeleine, Jonathan, Zoe, and Aaron. Donald was preceded in death by his daughter Patty, his parents Henry and Lessie, and his siblings Laverne, Eldon, and Garland.
A memorial service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held at a later date. Donald will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts. Thank you for your prayers and support during this time.
