Donna Jean Prichard Myers, 76, died January 27, 2018 at her home in Seymour, TX with her family by her side.
Donna was born on August 14, 1941 to Donald and Mary Earlene Prichard in Springer, NM. Raised on the family ranch, ethics of hard work, integrity and accountability were instilled in Donna at an early age and were trademarks of her character her entire life.
She attended high school in Roy, NM where she met and eventually married Phil Shurbet. The couple settled in Salida, CO. Phil's untimely death in 1969 left her a single mother raising two young children, Steve and Quenna. At an early age she impressed upon them the importance of family, faith and responsibility, as she maintained a balance between her kid's activities and family time while working a full time job, in addition to maintaining their small ranching operation in Salida. Her children noted she never sat down, she was always busy working toward a goal and was very mindful and detail oriented in all her business practices.
In 1985 she met Dean Myers while he was on a photo shoot in Salida for Phillip Morris Inc. She married "The Marlboro Man" in 1986 and moved to his ranch in Seymour, TX. It was on the ranch that her business skills had a big impact, as she often managed the operation alone while Dean was out of town for Phillip Morris obligations. When ranch activities permitted, she liked to travel with Dean to the photo shoot locations, and her camp cooking was always a big hit with the entire crew.
She was small in stature but mighty in character, and was a welcomed source of wisdom and strength for all who knew her. With elegance and class, she was well known for offering "Life Lessons" to those around her - from how to properly make a bed to how to build fence or haul hay, all with sincerity and a smile. It was important to her that people learned the correct process and procedure for the task at hand - from cooking and cleaning to ranch work. She was a firm believer that doing the small things right made a big difference in the end result.
Her kids and grandkids were her pride and joy and she conversed with them daily and they drew from her insight and encouragement. When they would encounter an obstacle in their life she would gently but firmly remind them, "You just have to keep peeling those potatoes," which they knew meant they had keep working through it to ever get past it.
Donna leaves a lasting legacy of her principles, philosophies and faith to her loved ones. Survivors include her husband Dean Myers of Seymour, TX, son Steve Shurbet of Queen Creek, AZ; daughter Quenna and husband Mark Terry of New Home, TX; step-son Marty Dean Myers of Wichita Falls, TX; grandchildren Stevie Marie and K.C. Kay Shurbet, Jesse Dean Terry, Deidra Yonts and great-granddaughters Zaylee Fusselman and Avery Yonts. Donna is preceded in death by her parents.
