Garland D. Welch, 78 of Wichita Falls, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Wichita Falls.
Services will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Seymour First Baptist Church with Scott Finch, Wichita Falls Fire Department Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
Garland was born August 28, 1938 in Round Timber to Henry and Lessie Stennett Welch. He was a graduate of Seymour High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Garland married Barbara Bishop on December 22, 1960 in Wichita Falls. He joined the Wichita Falls Fire Department in 1967, retiring in 1997. He was also a truck driver and a farmer. Garland's free time was spent with his family, attending first his daughter's sporting events and later those of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and taking his granddaughters fishing. He was a member of the Holliday First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Welch of Wichita Falls; a daughter, Lisa Grimes and husband, Scott of Wichita Falls; 2 granddaughters, Kerstie Coats and Lexie Pringle and husband, Rashard; 4 great grandchildren, Karter and Kason, J and Corleigh; and 1 brother, Donald Welch and wife, Betty of Seymour.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
