Gary Max Coltharp, age 87 of Seymour, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2025. He was born October 6, 1937 in Seymour, Texas to JH and Bonnie Vee Coltharp. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Barbara and his brother James (Butch) Coltharp.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Warren officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Gary was a proud Seymour native and graduated from Seymour High School before attending Tarleton State University, where he met the love of his life, Barbara. They married on June 25, 1960, and built a life together. After returning to Seymour, Gary worked alongside his father and brother in the family’s road construction business, which took them across Texas, paving roads and building a legacy. Gary’s hard work and dedication were evident in all he did, and his commitment to his family and his business was unwavering.
Gary and Barbara had three children: Dan Coltharp of Atlanta, Georgia; Randy and wife Cindy of Seymour, Texas; and Mitzi Daniel and husband Pat of Godley, Texas. He also leaves behind five grandsons- Cody Coltharp and wife Lacy of Holliday, Cory Coltharp and wife Tamie of Ransom Canyon, Caleb Coltharp of Wichita Falls, Callan Coltharp and wife Tatum of Lakeside City, and Ty Robertson and wife Elli of Greeley Colorado- and 10 great grandchildren: Caden, Hadley, and Krosston of Holliday, Kache, Paislee, and Piper of Ransom Canyon; Hollyn of Aztec, New Mexico, and Ledger, Lawson, and Lowyn of Lakeside City, Texas.
Gary’s greatest passion was farming and ranching, and he lived his dream of working the land until the end of his life. His love for his family was evident in his involvement with his grandchildren, whether it was cheering them on at stock shows or sporting events. Gary lived a life dedicated to his family, his work and his faith. He was known for his relentless work ethic and rarely took time off, often pouring his energy into his farm and ranch.
He is also survived by his brother Donald Gale Coltharp and wife Mary Nell of Seymour and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gary will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Seymour community. His legacy of hard work, love and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew him
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
