Gwen (Morris) Mcguire

October 19, 1928 — January 9, 2021

Seymour

On January 9, 2021, the streets of gold were tapped danced upon as Gwen Lee McGuire, age 92, entered through the gates of heaven.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., in the Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Steve Sullwold officiating under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Gwen, better known by everyone as Gege, was born on October, 19 1928. While swimming at the Seymour City Pool during her teenage years, Gwen met a lifeguard named Lee Wayne. Two years later, at the age of 17, they married and began their life in Seymour.

During her life, Gwen was devoted to her family, her church, and the children of Seymour. Gwen brought joy to so many children in the Seymour and Throckmorton areas with her fun and energetic tap dancing lesson, which she taught in high-heeled tap shoes. She was a member and avid tennis player in the Seymour County Club’s tennis association. Gwen was a charter member of the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary and member of the Baylor County Child Welfare Board. Gwen was also a pilot, and would giggle and say, “ There would be a lot of nervous people, if they knew I was flying solo over Seymour.” Gwen was a loyal member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, taught Sunday School, and led the children sermon. Each sermon would begin with her sitting on the floor with all the children, and end with her signature, A-MEN and closing of the Bible.

Not only will Gwen be remembered for her many good works, but many will remember her well- kept blonde hair, pink lipstick,  canun-shrimp nail polish, sequined shirts, fashionable high-heels; and in her older years, a sweet side wink that was a silent reminder that she loved you.

Gwen is survived by two children, Marcia Ligon; Sid McGuire and wife, Elizabeth; one sister Carol Hardin; four grandchildren, Mandi Ligon; Brad McGuire and wife, Molly; Molly Stroebel and husband, Jason; Melissa Wineinger and husband, Kelly. Seven great grandchildren, Channing and Kennedy Stroebel, Kylie Sanders, Allie and Hadlee McGuire, Hagan and Sydney Wineinger, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Wayne; parents Lee and Pauline Morris, and son-in-law Mike Ligon.
