James Duke Murry, 51 of Seymour, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Duke was born on November 20, 1973 in Seymour to Randall and Linda Murry. He was a 1992 graduate of Hamlin High School. Duke attended San Angelo State, North Texas University, and received a Bachelor degree in Biology from West Texas State University in 1997. Duke began his 19-year teaching career in Nazareth, followed by a stop in Mexia and eventually El Paso, where he taught Biology and Astronomy. Due to Myotonic Dystrophy, Duke retired from teaching at the age of 44. He then became a proud stay-at-home dad to both Lindsey and Ty. Duke remained an active member of Del Sol Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas until coming home to Seymour in 2023.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Murry; two children, Lindsey Kate Murry and James Ty Murry, all of Seymour; Two sisters, Laura and Chris Jakubicek of Seymour and Angela Murry of Dallas; nephew, Caden Meinzer and niece, Layne Meinzer. Duke was preceded in death by his father, Randall Murry of Seymour.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 10:30 a.m., at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Gage and Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 1016 W. Jackson Blvd., #1073, Chicago, Ill. 60607 or the First Methodist Church, 1025 W. California, Seymour, Texas 76380.
