Jannett (Donnell) Mayers

April 6, 1944 — July 26, 2021

Seymour

Jannett Donnell Mayers, 77, of Seymour, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas at Riverside Inn Memory Care after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born April 6, 1944 in Paducah to P.W. and Hazel Peacock Donnell. Jannett married Boyd Felton Mayers on February 21, 1959.  They would celebrate 55 years of marriage before his death on September 22, 2014.  They had two children, Jimmy and Angela, five grandsons and one great granddaughter from their union.  Jannett passed away on what would have been Felton’s 82nd birthday.

Jannett was one of seven siblings, including her twin and very best friend.  She was often heard bragging about the number of twins in her family, including her twin grandsons.  She spent many years working as an LVN and in later life, went back to school to earn her RN.  Jannett had a hunger for learning and often spent time telling her grandsons how important an education was.  She enjoyed school and loved to read and then “paraphrase” what she thought you needed to know from her learning.  Jannett and Felton loved working in their yard and took such pride in how manicured and pretty it always looked.  She loved spending time outdoors, listening to country music, reading fiction novels and going for walks around the park.  During the time she spent in memory care she was an awesome Bingo and Trivia player and loved playing cards.  Jannett will be remembered for her work with the Keep Texas Beautiful project in Seymour and all the crepe myrtle trees planted out on the Olney highway.

Jannett was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her twin Janice Haynes, and two brothers, David and Gary Donnell.

Jannett is survived by her  children, Jimmy and Kathy Mayers of Olney, Texas and Mark and Angela Grannan of Roanoke, Texas, two brothers, Jim Donnell and Mike Donnell of Seymour and one sister Vicki Cheatham of Milford, Texas,  5 grandsons, Zac and Hillary Mayers of Lubbock, Texas, Samuel Sutton of Fredericksburg, Texas, Adam Sutton of Paris, Texas, Keaton and Carole Anne Mayers of Midland, Texas, Parker Mayers of Glen Rose, Texas, and  great-granddaughter, Margot Mayers of Lubbock, Texas.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.  Visitation will be from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m., Saturday, August 7 at the Archer Funeral Home in Seymour.  Arrangements are under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to St. Gabriel’s Hospice of Fort Worth TX,  Alzheimer’s Association, Seymour Cemetery Association, or a charity of your choice.
