Jerry Macha

February 25, 1949 — December 28, 2021

Seymour

Jerome Edward Macha (Jerry) died peacefully in his sleep early in the morning of December 28, 2021 in Seymour, TX.  He was born on February 25, 1949 to Jerome George Macha and Amelia Margaret Baca (Millie) and spent his life on the family farm in Seymour, except for the years spent in college in Lubbock, Texas.  Jerry attended Seymour schools.  After graduation from high school in 1967, Jerry attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agri-business and Agronomy.   Jerry then returned to the family farm where he engaged in farming and ranching.   Jerry was proud of his Macha family Cotton heritage.  For the last 25 years until recently, Jerry also worked during the spring and summers on area farms with the Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation.   While in high school, Jerry was actively involved with the Future Farmers of America and showed livestock that won Grand Prize ribbons, both locally and at regional competitions. He also ran track in high school and developed a fondness for running that extended into his adult years. He was a member of Czech fraternal organizations, KJT and the SPJST, where he participated in their youth program, and later in SPJST local lodge activities.   Jerry was a member of Texas Farm Bureau.  He took part in community activities in Seymour and the area, but especially loved life in the country.  Several of his nieces and nephews enjoyed spending summers there, and working on the farm while experiencing the freedom and beauty of the country.

Jerry Macha was known by classmates as a shy, never troublesome, and often very quiet schoolmate. Jerry loved and lived the simple life.  People who knew him observed that Jerry took his time; he didn’t live too fast.   Those longing for a simpler day and life will continue to embody the free spirit, love of nature, life, and friendship that Jerry truly represented.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Helen Macha Black, eight nieces and nephews, including Debby Ellington Judge (Mark), the Hon. Janice Ellington Donnelly, Peggy Ellington Dinsmore (Dyron), Owen Ellington JD (Linda), Byron Ellington (Annette), Neil Black (Hollie), Cindy Black Hill (Chris), Clayton Black (Laura), and a number of grandnephews and grandnieces, including three great grandnieces.  Jerry was predeceased by his parents and grandparents, his sister, Martha Macha Ellington, brothers-in-law Owen Ellington and Richard Black, and nephew-in-law Dan Donnelly.
