Jo Overton Sammons, 59, of Seymour, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 in Seymour.

Services will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 2:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Seymour with Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Cemetery in Haskell, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home in Seymour.

Jo was born November 20, 1956 in Stamford to Allen D. and Genelle Bailey Overton. She started school in Paint Creek and was a 1975 graduate of Haskell High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Haskell. Jo received a Bachelors Degree in Education from Midwestern State University in 1990, graduating Magna Cum Laude, all while raising 4 children. She began her teaching career at Munday Elementary School and soon after with Megargel ISD. She spent the remainder of her 25 year career teaching English at the Seymour Middle School. Jo married the love of her life, Alvin Sammons, on July 19, 1997 in Seymour. She was preceded in death by her father, Allen D. Overton; a sister, Donna Kay Overton; her step-father, Raymond Weeks; a step-brother, Mike Weeks and a step-sister, Rebecca Weeks Clark.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin Sammons of Seymour; her children, Dustin Hajek and wife, Amy of Wylie, Jonathan Hajek of Duncan, OK, Erin Smith and husband, Cameron of Wichita Falls, David Hajek, Jr. and wife, Gina of Peaster, Lucas Sammons of Haskell and Kaysha Byrd and husband, Jonathan of Lubbock; her grandchildren, Hudson Hajek, Jolie Smith and Emmie Smith (on the way), Skyler Hajek, Sydney Hajek, Kayleb Byrd, and Addison Byrd; her mother, Genelle Overton Weeks of Haskell; a sister, Jana Overton Norville of Seymour; her mother and father-in-law, Pat and Glen Sammons of Haskell; step-sister, Paula Weeks of Denton; step brother-in-law, Harris Osborne of New Braunfels; brother-in-law, Steve Sammons and wife, Paula of Haskell; and a sister-in-law, Diane Newberry and husband, Mike of Lake Dallas.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Archer Funeral Home
