Joseph D. Dickson, Jr., 84 of Seymour, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2020.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Joe was born March 16, 1936 in Seymour to Joseph Donnell Dickson, Sr. and Grace Brooks Cauldwell Dickson. He was a graduate of Seymour High School and attended McMurry College in Abilene for a year before joining the U.S. Army. Joe served in Germany as a combat medic and was honorably discharged in 1959. He served 1 year in the Texas State Guard Reserves. During this time, he started dating Brenda Hutchens and went back to college. The couple married on June 25, 1960 at the Goree First United Methodist Church and started their family with a son in 1964 and a daughter in 1965.
Joe had worked for the U.S. Welfare Office of Distribution, as a probation officer for the 50th District, Baylor County Judge, served on the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and was a farmer and cattleman by trade.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Brenda on March 12, 2016.
He is survived by his son, Jon David and Rebecca Dickson; his daughter, Julianne and Darrell Keehn; grandchildren, Cody Dickson, Jayla and Junior Sanchez, Jocelyn and Laramie Reeves, Cobie and Emily Decker, Ty Dickson, Rylie and Johnny Diaz and Sophia Fenten-Dickson. Joe was also loved by 10 great grandchildren, a dear close friend, Joyce Hays and his companion dog, Louie.
