Katherine Caddel Smith, died Sunday, March 8, 2015 in Seymour, at the age of 99, was born October 30, 1915 in the Huckabay, Erath County, Texas, as Katherine Elizabeth Ann Smith. Her parents were Thomas Edward Smith and Lillie Emma (Whisenant) Smith.

She married Joe C. Caddel on May 26, 1938 in Devine, Texas. She was preceded in death by one son, Joe Doyle Caddel and her husband, Joe C. Caddel.

She married Armon O. Smith of Vera, Texas on June 28, 1962 in Red Springs, Texas. The Smiths farmed at Vera until they moved to Seymour in the late 1990's. Armon died on November 27, 2002.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Smith lived in California and Washington state during the 1940's and 1950's, returning to Texas in 1962. She attended Midwestern State University, graduating in May of 1971, with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She held a Texas Teacher Certificate enabling her to teach History and English at the High School level. Through the years, she helped care for several of her relatives, including her husband, her mother, her brother, her mothers-in-law, and a sister. Perhaps she will be remembered best for her genealogy research and the documentation she amassed. She organized the material and prepared a book, which she distributed to family members who were interested.
Graveside services will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., with Benny Archer, officiating, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
