Norma Laverne McCarson was born August 26, 1926 in Elbert, Texas to Bill and Minnie Manuel. She passed away peacefully on July 6, 2022 with her dear sister, Reba, praying over her.
Laverne married the love of her life, G.B. McCarson, on July 13, 1946 after a three week courtship. They were married for 58 years, until his passing in 2004. She graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1943, and from Midwestern University in 1962. She began and ended her teaching career at Throckmorton ISD. Teaching was her passion and talent, and she was beloved by all the students who were fortunate enough to have her as a teacher. She loved each and every student, and showed that love through many extravagant projects that made learning fun. She was rewarded for her efforts by being named Teacher of the Year in 1982, and was a state finalist that same year. After her retirement, she and G.B. hit the road to follow the rodeo circuit. It was truly a great experience that she cherished. When the rodeo travel ended, they settled in to follow their grandchildren and great grand’s many endeavors. She rarely missed a game, awards ceremony, concert, or any event in which her family was involved. Laverne was known as Ms. Mac by her grandchildren, a name that caught on and was used by everyone. The Elbert Baptist Church was her church home, and also where she led the singing for many years. Ms. Mac loved and adored her entire family, just as they loved and adored her. She was the matriarch of the Manuel and McCarson families for many years, and will be deeply missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Elbert Baptist Church with Dr. Marty Light officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Youngblood and husband Ken; 3 grandchildren, Kyle Youngblood, Kami Nichols and Kristi McCarson-Leonard; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Reba Mahler, Laquita Kee and Beth Frost and 3 brothers, Lyndell Manuel, Jerry Don Manuel and Larry Manuel.
The family suggests memorials to the Elbert Cemetery Association, 6410 Hwy. 79, Elbert, Texas 76372 or the Elbert Baptist Church, 2707 Farm Rd. 1711 South, Olney, Texas 76374.
