Lou Jane Hardin died peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Lewisville, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at First Methodist Church in Seymour with Rev. Jay Gage officiating. Burial will be in the Henson Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home. The family will accept visitors 6pm-7pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Archer Funeral Home in Seymour.
Lou was born in Wichita Falls on February 18, 1936, to Daniel and LuVera Martin. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School (Old High) and received her Bachelors degree in Music Education degree from Midwestern University in 1958. She later obtained her Masters degree in Music Education from The University of North Texas in 1968. Lou taught music in Wichita Falls, The University of Wisconsin at River Falls and Burkburnett. She was an avid proponent of music and performing arts in the public school curriculum and found immense pleasure in sharing her love of both with her students. Lou retired from public school teaching in 1991 but never stopped sharing her musical knowledge and talent.
Lou married Garry Hardin in August of 1975 and they made their home in Wichita Falls. They moved to Lake Kemp after their retirements and later moved into Seymour where they lived until Garry’s death in December 2017.
Lou had a deep faith and was a member of the Methodist church. She sang in the church choir when she lived in Wichita Falls and later joined the First Methodist choir in Seymour after her retirement. Singing the annual Christmas Cantata was one of her favorite activities and she looked forward to it every year. During the last several years, Lou continued to lead Sunday music at the assisted living facility where she resided.
Lou enjoyed all types of music, and she created her own collections of her favorite songs, organized by genre, that she continually updated and enhanced. However, her musical passion was opera, and she could tell you the history, story and any interesting facts about any composer or performance. She enjoyed attending the local theaters in Wichita Falls & Lewisville to watch live streams of the Metropolitan Opera performances. Lou would somehow find a way to fit an opera performance into her and Garry’s vacation travels, which always made for fun stories after their return.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Garry, brother-in-law Mickey Hardin, sister-in-law Beverly Carlock and sister-in-law Colleen Martin.
Survivors include her brother, Daniel Martin of Forney; brother-in-law Billy Carlock of Seymour; sister-in-law Brenda Hardin of Lubbock; son Rusty Park and wife Sarah of Wichita Falls; daughter Kimberley Hardin Domaschk and husband Gordon of Argyle; grandchildren, Elizabeth Park and significant other Terry Trotter (children Sora and Aisen) of Wichita Falls, Charles ‘Cappy’ Park and fiancé Kimberly Johnson (children Lilly and Landry) of Ryan Oklahoma, Amanda Domaschk of Dallas and Laura McIntosh and husband Robert of Aledo; great grandsons Elree McIntosh and Grady McIntosh; and many other nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends whom she loved greatly.
