Minnie Lois (Scruggs) Hunter

September 11, 1918 — September 25, 2023

Wichita Falls

Minnie Lois Scruggs, Hunter, Childers, Hunter could no longer fend off the effects of her 105 years of life and left her physical body behind and entered the gates of Heaven on September 25, 2023.

Minnie was born September 11, 1918 in Center, Tx. She was the oldest child of Elmer and Iva Scruggs. Minnie lived in many different parts of Texas growing up including going to school at Doans (north of Vernon) in the school house that is now the oldest building in Wilbarger, County. On November 17, 1937 Minnie married Kenneth Hunter and they had 2 boys, James Ray and Donald Thomas then World War II took them apart. Minnie moved to east Texas and worked as a waitress where she met and married Perry Vernon Childers. They had 2 children, Perry Vernon Jr. (Curley) and Lois Jo. Perry Sr. soon became ill and passed away. As fate would have it Minnie met back up with Kenneth again and they remarried. In 1952 Minnie and family moved to California where she became a well accomplished seamstress and had her last son John William. Minnie lived in California until her retirement in 1976 at which time she & Kenneth moved back to Texas and lived in Seymour. Minnie couldn't stay idle and had a fantastic flower and vegetable garden all the while working at M System market and volunteering for the Pink Ladies at the Seymour hospital. When Kenneth died in 1988 Minnie moved to Wichita Falls where she worked at Sam's Club as a Demo Lady well into her 90's. Minnie lived a colorful life traveling to several countries and enjoying all the fruits of a long and wonderful life. Minnie is preceeded in death by her parents Elmer & Iva, all of her brothers and sisters Jessie, Robert, Gertrude & Wynema, 4 children Jim, Don, Curley and Lois Jo and one great grandchild Kaleb.

She is survived by one son John, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Minnie's love and compassion will be greatly missed but will live on in the lives of her family and all who knew her.

Services will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour, Texas on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 12 noon with Rev. Russell Roberts officiating, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
