Neva Joyce (Mcmorris) Thorn

Neva Joyce McMorris Thorn aged 78 of Big Spring, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in Big Spring, Texas.  Neva was born on October 13, 1945 in Seymour, Texas, to Tom and Geneva (Pierce) McMorris.

Neva graduated from Seymour High School in 1964.  After graduation, Neva was married and adopted four children.  She dedicated her entire life to showing love to and taking care of children in need.  She became a foster parent and for over 22 and a half years, she had 110 foster children in her care, became a court-appointed CASA advocate and she served in the nursery at First Baptist Church Wichita Falls for 15 years.  She also worked at the Clinics of North Texas in Wichita Falls for 20 years.  She had an adventurous spirit and traveled the world.  Once retired, she continued to travel and spent a lot of her time embroidering beautiful creations for friends and family.

Neva is preceded in death by both of her parents, Tom and Geneva McMorris, her stepsons Tim Thorn, Mike Laurent and step-granddaughter Holly Thorn

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Danny Thorn; four children, William Brent Butler and wife Judy from Seymour, Texas, Tracy Annette Newton and husband Gregg from Big Spring, Texas, Julie Butler Blackmon from Fort Worth, Texas and Brian Mac Butler of Houston, Texas; two step-children Stacey Shaw and husband Terry and Kim Laurent of Wichita Falls, Texas; her brother Donnie McMorris of Austin, Texas and sister-in-law Billie Ann McMorris of Seymour.  She was Memaw to 10 grandchildren and their families, Cory and Krystal Butler, Deidra and Calvin Thompson, Amanda and Trace Nowak, Jordan Blackmon, Falon and Ryan Robbins, Wyatt Blackmon, Granger and Kalyn Newton, Riley and Kylie Blackmon, Zane Blackmon, Gentry Blackmon and to 8 step-grandchildren Dustin Thorn, Josh Havard, Andrew Laurent, Amy Laurent, Austin Thorn, and Cole and Idana Thorn, Cameron Dean and Carson Dean.  She also is Memaw to 13 great grands with 2 on the way and 4 step great grands.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Southside Baptist Church in Wichita Falls with Pastor Bobby Gonzales officiating.  Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Bomarton Cemetery in Bomarton, Texas under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday at Archer Funeral Home in Seymour.
