Ocle Hewitt Miller

Ocle Hewitt Miller was born in Burkburnett, Texas on Ausust 12, 1912, to Robert Frank and Minnie Jackson Hewitt. She joined her husband in heaven on Thursday, December 11, 2014.

When Ocle was 2 years old, her family moved to their farm 8 miles northwest of Seymour in Baylor County. She attended school in the Plainview community, riding her horse, Patty, to school every day. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1929. On December 24, 1933, she married her long time sweetheart, Glen Earl Miller. They farmed in the Plainview community until 1957, when they purchased a ranch in Hardeman County and moved there and continued to farm and ranch in both Hardeman and Baylor Counties. In 1959, they sold the ranch and moved back to Baylor County and purchased additional farm land.

Throughout the years, she was involved in the Plainview Home Demonstration Club, winning many ribbons for her canned goods. She also was a member of First Baptist Church in Seymour since 1932. Ocle was elected the Old Settlers Queen for the Centennial Celebration of the Seymour Old Settlers Reunion and Rodeo.

She enjoyed helping her husband on the farm, gardening, canning, cooking, and sewing for her family, and was well known for her apple pies. She was frequently heard to say that she had the best job in the world being a farmer's wife. She was blessed with boundless energy and good health, and remained mentally sharp all of her life, always being happy and cheerful, and never complaining.

She remained in her home, on her farm, until 2008 when she moved to assisted living in Seymour, where she was lovingly cared for by the staff.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Glen; her sister-in-law, Modena Miller; a grandson, Mike Miller; daughter-in-law, Paula Miller; and son-in-law, Robbie Word.

She is survived by a sister, Orene Covington; a son, James Miller and wife, Jo; 2 daughters, Nancy Word and Mary Hale and husband, Dan; 6 grandchildren, Karla Miller Metty, Richland Word, Ron Word, David Hale, Nathan Hale and Jack Hale; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. , at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Boyd of Woodhaven Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church or IntegraCare Hospice.
