Rayburn Layton, 81 of Stephenville, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 in Ft. Worth.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cache Creek Cemetery with Joe Leathers officiating, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Rayburn was born August 10, 1939 in Vernon to Acie and Magdalene Herschman Layton and attended school in Vernon. He worked for S.E.A. Cattle Company in Ardmore, Oklahoma then trained horses in Kentucky and Illinois. When he moved back to Oklahoma he went to work for Pride Feeders in Hooker, Oklahoma, where he worked for 25 years. He also worked for Moorhouse Ranch for a number of years. Rayburn was a true horseman. He rode, trained and showed horses all his life. He married Cindy Elliott on July 3, 1981 in Guymon, Oklahoma. Rayburn was preceded in death by his parents, Acie and Magdalene Layton and 2 sisters, Wanda Faye Downes and Joyce Chisum.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Layton of Stephenville; 3 children, Chad and Lydia Townson and Tye Townson all of Stephenville and Mindy and Simaron Rapp of Washington, Oklahoma; a brother, Roger and Jalonda Layton of Guymon, Oklahoma; a sister, Betty Ann and James Carpenter of Vernon and 5 grandchildren, Ace, George, Annie, Thomas and Teal.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to WRCA Foundation Crisis Fund, ATTN: Kasey Hooper, 408 S.W. 7th Ave., Amarillo, Texas 79101 (memo: In memory of Rayburn Layton) or on their website, www.WRCA.org.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
