Sammie Lou Chapman went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2024. She was born at her parent’s home in Vera, Texas on February 22, 1928 which makes her 96 years old at the time of her passing. She attended the Vera school and graduated from there. Her parents were Sam and Lou (Trainham) Shipman.
She married D.A. Chapman Jr. on August 28, 1948. They made their home in the Plainview Community near Seymour where they began farming. They had two sons – Kirby Chapman and Myron Chapman.
In her younger years Sammie enjoyed square dancing, sewing, traveling, and cooking for her family. Her main job was housewife and mother though she was sometimes recruited to be a farm hand.
She was an active member of the Plainview Home Demonstration club for 70 years. She held most club offices from one time or another during that time.
She was an active member of the Seymour First Baptist Church for almost 70 years until her health would no longer allow her to attend services.
She is predeceased by her parents Sam and Lou Shipman; her husband D.A. Chapman Jr.; a grandson Taylor Hamby Chapman; siblings Truman Shipman, Darwin Shipman, Irene English, Louis Shipman, and Paul Shipman; and nephews Gil Shipman and Jimmy Flegler.
She is survived by Myron Chapman and wife Connie of Amarillo, Texas; Kirby Chapman and wife Elda of Sierra Vista, Arizona; Three grandchildren – David Chapman and wife Amy of Farmington, Arkansas, Brian Chapman of Florence, Alabama, and Sarah Chapman Buescken of Oberhausen, Germany; Five nieces and nephews; Several great nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Seymour with Dr. David Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Henson Cemetery, Red Springs, Texas under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
