Wayland Gene Jones

After a long illness, Wayland Jones at the age of 82, left this world to his forever home in heaven onJune 20th, 2023.

Services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Seymour with Dr. David Warren officiating.  Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Wayland was born May 22nd, 1941 to RB and Sybil Swain Jones in Seymour TX. He attended Midwestern State University where he met his wife, Sandra Sluder Jones and they were married on September 13th, 1966. Wayland worked at Montgomery Tractor Company as a bookkeeper for many years where he met many friends who became family.

Wayland and Sandra love to travel and go camping. Wayland was an avid hunter and loved to spend that time with friends and family. Many stories could be told but are best left by the campfire or in a deer blind. Wayland and Sandra did not have any children of their own but adopted several friends’ children and grandchildren as part of their lives.  He will always be affectionately known as GiGi.  Wayland is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Jones, his parents, RB and Sybil Jones, and his brother Don Jones as well as several cousins and aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Doris Jones, his Nephews Eddie Benham and Jerry Jones, Niece Jamie Caldwell, and three cousins as well as many friends who are family.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
