Wayne Eakins, 89, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 in Burkburnett with his children by his side.
Services will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Warren officiating. Burial will be in the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home. A visitation will be held prior to the service, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Sunday at the church.
Wayne was born March 17, 1934 in Knox City to Emmitt and Opal Emerson Eakins. He was a 1952 graduate of Rule High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University in 1956. Following college, he joined the army and was stationed in Virginia. After his discharge from the military, Wayne began his teaching career in Aspermont. He taught there for 3 years and this is also where he met the love of his life, Angela Ball. The couple married on June 1, 1962 in Aspermont. They moved to Seymour in 1962 and he taught school for the Seymour ISD for 29 years. All told, he taught school for 32 years. When his boys were young, they spent the summers in Oklahoma where Wayne was working towards his Masters degree at Oklahoma University. Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour, teaching Sunday School for decades and cooking the Golden Agers breakfasts, also for decades Wayne was well known for his love of gardening. Many in Seymour benefited from his bountiful harvests. He truly enjoyed wood working and tending his animals. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angela on December 25, 2023.
Survivors include his 2 sons, David Wayne Eakins and Michael Lynn and Diane Eakins all of Wichita Falls; a granddaughter, Jennifer and Ricky Bigbee of Wichita Falls; a grandson, Brandon Eakins of Wichita Falls and a sister, Nell Wester of Abilene.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church of Seymour, Seymour Meals on Wheels or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
