Wynette Moore

Wynette Moore, 93 of Dallas, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Dallas.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Red Springs Baptist Church.  Burial will be in the Henson Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Wynette was born in Red Springs, Texas on July 6, 1930 to Penn and Pearl Shoopman Moore.  When she was 6, the family moved and later built a home on the Lubbock Highway, 2 miles west of Red Springs.

She attended the Red Springs School and the Red Springs Baptist Church, where she made a decision to accept Christ as her Savior.  She graduated from Seymour High School and received her bachelor’s degree in Business Teaching/Secretarial from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton.  Nine years later, when she earned her Masters, the name had changed to North Texas State University.  She was a member of Pi Omega Pi and Delta Pi Epsilon—both honorary business chapters.  Her teaching career began at Mesquite High School as the “Commercial” teacher (bookkeeping, shorthand and typing).  She was 3 years older than some of her students which presented a challenge.  After 2 ½ years in Mesquite, she became the office manager for Dallas Baptist Association.  After gaining experience in the business world for 3 ½ years, she then resumed her teaching career with the Dallas Independent School District for the next 34 years.  She taught in two Dallas high schools:  North Dallas and W.T. White.  She was a pioneer in the Vocational Office of Education program and served as teacher-coordinator in that program for 27 years, training some 450 senior students in entry level office work.  More than 150 Dallas businesses cooperated in this endeavor.  During this time, she was active in the VOE teacher organization where she served on several committees and was a board member for the state student’s organization for one term.  After retiring, she taught one semester at a local business college.  She accepted temporary secretarial assignments with the Baptist General Convention of Texas for the next eight years.

During her free summers, while a teacher, she served as Box Office Manager for Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina and took advantage of touring historical and scenic places in the area.  One summer she was employed by Sun Oil Company; other summers, she did brief office assignments with different organizations in downtown Dallas to stay current in her teaching field.  During one summer, she and an adventurous friend drove to the East and visited with friends in South Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey and Washington D.C. while sightseeing.  She enjoyed traveling in Continental Europe, Spain, Portugal, Asia, Canada, Mexico, Alaskan Cruise and Mediterranean Cruise and making many auto trips in the United States.

Wynette was a loyal member of the Gaston Avenue Baptist Church for 20 years, was a sanctuary choir member, pianist for the high school choir for three years, and committee member of youth.  Since 1977, she was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church and active in that adult music program.

After retirement, she was a volunteer teacher with International Friends in the conversational English program at Park Cities and pianist for the assembly.  She made many friends and became a correspondent to those returning to their homeland including, Japan, China, Ukraine, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Columbia, Korea and Okinawa.  She was a participant with Baylor Medical Center Woman’s Auxiliary, monthly book club, monthly music club and volunteer cashier for 20 years for Wednesday church dinners.  She liked to read, do crossword puzzles and receive news from former students.

Wynette was preceded in death by her parents, Penn and Pearl Moore; brothers, Wayne Moore and Jack Moore and sisters-in-law, Mozelle Moore, Florence Moore and Pat Moore.

She is survived by a brother, Ray Lynn Moore and wife, Barbara; 5 nephews, Brent Moore and wife, Teresa, Jon Moore and wife, Marchele, Rick Moore and husband, Pohai Pace, Ron Moore and Raymie Moore; 2 nieces, Brenda Fullmer and husband, Jim and Rhonda Moore-Konieczny; 8 great nephews and nieces and 2 great great nieces.
